YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK, BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT ALONE
This course will lead you through a 12 unit study of the dynamic of growing up in a family in which the presence of an emotional needy family member disrupted the development of healthy behaviors and relationships. Perhaps this kept you from developing healthy behaviors and relationships. Since we are dealing with sensitive topics in reference to your past, a licensed professional counselor will participate in each support group as resource if needed.
Moving Beyond Your Past is a follow up with Making Peace With Your Past. This course is a 13 unit study that helps you understand problems related to your childhood experience. You will learn how to change present behaviors which grew out of those painful childhood experiences. In this study, we will look in the past when appropriate, but our focus is on present-tense change. A licensed professional counselor will participate in each support group as a resource if needed.
Shelter from the Storm are Christ-centered support/recovery groups (not therapy groups) designed to heal the emotional wound related to sexual abuse. Groups are held semi-annually in the Spring and Fall semesters. The twelve week curriculum written by Cynthia Kubetin-Littlefield, James Mallory, M.D. and Jacqualine C. Truitt is a clear step by step process for victims of sexual abuse to overcome the pervasive destruction that has happened to them. Per the curriculum, participants are required to repeat the curriculum for three semesters (a year and a half) to address the layers of effects from sexual trauma. Additionally, all participants are encouraged to be in professional counseling with a licensed professional counselor.
